Exeter U17 Boys qualify for NAGs finals!
Our U17 boys travelled to Gloucester yesterday to compete in the qualifying tournament for this year's National Age Group Championships. We were up against some tough opposition in the shape of Worthing (the current reigning champions), Cheltenham, Northampton, Birmingham and Sheffield.
Starting out with Worthing first, we were barely warmed up, and our passing left something to be desired at times, but we gave them their tightest game of the day, eventually losing out by two goals, 7-9.
The other four matches all resulted in wins for the Exeter lads, but they were far from straightforward, especially the last game of the day against Sheffield, which saw our team battle through exhaustion to score a penalty and goal in the last 2 minutes, ending the match 6-5 to us.
All the boys worked hard and supported one another through some adrenaline-fuelled play and nail-biting moments.
Special mentions must go to Charlie as GK, who made some great saves, Noah with four scorching goals in the Northampton match (he PROMISED he would score!), Stan and Sam did extremely well in both defence and attack, and AJ topped the goal tally for Exeter with 14 put away over all five matches, including 3 spot-on penalties.
Our successful day allowed us to qualify alongside Worthing, London Penguin and City of Manchester for the finals in Sunderland on April 29th & 30th.
Well done Exeter - In the top four in the country!
