EXETER EXCEL having left it late to claim their first win in men’s Championship 1 at Haberdashers. They beat Watford Water Polo 11-10, but only after Watford had twice held useful leads – 5-2 early in the second period and 9-7 at the start of the last.

The final quarter saw Exeter in complete control, scoring four quick goals through Adrian Carrieri, James Coleman, Kameron Powell and Cody Plumridge. Andy Holt’s fourth strike of the game for Watford came too late to rescue his side.

Exeter Waterpolo Club Head Coach, Luke Bray, described his team’s evolution this season:

It was fantastic to get out first win of phase two over a strong Watford side. We demonstrated a real maturity in our control of attack and defence, which is something we have spoken about all season.

This year has seen a turnover of a number of key players, and we are lucky to have had a core group of seniors who have really led a younger group in their development through the season.

Winning tight games as we did on Sunday is vital in our progression and for our morale, and we are very lucky to have an excellent bunch of lads representing the club.”
